Ping HONG (China) Director
The founder of Gateway Language Village, Hong Xiu Ping, completed his Master's degree at Purdue University, Indiana. After working several years in the USA he returned to China to contribute to its future development. Ping realised that the most important factor in helping people learn a language was the creation of the right environment. The total immersion method (TIE) used at Gateway has been successful in helping many thousands of students to quickly build up their skill and confidence in using English.
James Yi (China) Hangzhou GLV Director
James Yi, comes from Hubei province. A tough childhood life had made him strong and enthusiastic. He has been a management officer in business enterprises, and successfully set up his own commercial company. He was a GLV student five years ago. He enjoys Total Immersion English a lot and appreciates GLV's concept of teaching and education. He is easy-going and has a strong enterprising spirit. He enjoys the challenges of life and works towards a "harmonious life". Interests include friends and travel.
Alan Fryback (USA) Senior Management/Finance Consultant
Born in the USA but lived mainly in Colombia and Macau . Education focused on physics, mathematics and education. His work experience has enabled him to see new opportunities and develop new programs and activities. As director of the School of the Nations in Macau , his task was to build educational, financial and management systems for the school in the kindergarten, primary and secondary levels. He hopes his experience in school administration, financial management and ability to create educational material will contribute positively to GLV's development.
Arthur Zhang ( China ) Hangzhou GLV Vice Director
Arthur Zhang is from Lanzhou City. He began to work as a Website designer with an English major background in 2001. Like many people from the Yellow Altiplano, he is very patient, easy-going, modest, and warm-hearted. He independently re-created the GLV website. In addition, he has been worked in marketing, student service, public relations, and as assistant of the human resources manager. He contributed greatly in the early stages of preparation and marketing at Hangzhou GLV, where he currently takes a very important place. His leisure activities include swimming and football.
Claudia Swan (USA.) English Program Administrator
Claudia Swan, from the USA, has lived in the Zhuhai area for more than 16 years.She is chiefly responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the school. A professional teacher, she has a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction and is one of the most experienced language teachers in South China. She has taught at many schools and universities and has developed language programs for many schools, major companies and government agencies.
Kevin Morton (India)
Kevin Morton, from Pune India, is the English Program Administrator for the Hang Zhou Branch of Gateway Language Village. He has experience in speaking many different languages and dialects from India and also has acquired knowledge of Mandarin and Cantonese. Kevin has extensive experience teaching English for Primary, Middle and High Schools. In addition he also has expertise in teaching Business and Conversational English for Training Centres, teaching from Entry to High Levels in Macau and on the Mainland of China. Teaching and learning languages are his passion. His interests include organizing excursions, and playing an active part in setting up programs. Kevin has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, a TEFL certificate and 16 years of teaching experience. Kevin firmly believes that education is a service to the Community!
Mary Lewinski (USA)
Mary Lewinski come from Detroit, Michigan. She worked for the State of Michigan in the information technology arena (computers) for over 30 years. She was also a part time teacher at Macomb Community College where she taught Systems Analysis and Introduction to Computers. She and her husband Tom McDowell live in Tampa, Florida and now make Zhuhai their home, where they hope to serve the people of China.
Sandra Lee (USA.)
From Kauai, Hawaii, Sandra Lee is an English language teacher with a master's degree in Psychology and many years experience as a public speaker, counselor and professional trainer in the USA. She has helped people from many different cultures adjust to the pressures of modern life in the West and is an expert in personal communication skills. She has worked for many organizations and companies and has a great interest in the future of China. She lived for several years in Japan and has a profound respect for the wisdom of Asian cultures.
Jene Bellows (USA.)
Jene Bellows serves the school primarily as Senior Consultant and advisor for strategic planning, development and intercultural communication. She has been intimately associated with Chinese people all over the world, and most particularly in China for more than 18 years. Mrs. Bellows has been involved with the school since its inception.
Byron (China)
Byron was born in Shandong. He was a Bachelor's degree in English literature from Shandong University and a Master's degree in Education from Flinders University of South Australia. He has been teaching English in both college and middle school for almost 6 years. He started his teaching career in GLV June 2006. He likes talking with GLV students and sharing his experiences with them.
Sally (USA)
Sally was born and raised in Indianapolis , Indiana , USA . She is a graduate of Indiana University and has worked at a variety of colorful jobs including selling shoes and charity work. In her free time she enjoys reading, films, writing, and reckless travel. She looks forward to meeting new people and enjoying her stay in China .
John Finlayson ( New Zealand )
John Finlayson was born and raised in New Zealand . After exploring all of his home country he moved to Australia where he met his lovely wife Kate. John has worked in the hospitality industry for the past eight years, mainly in bartending and nightclub management. He enjoys surfing, fixing things, doing up old cars and travel. John has travelled to the north and south islands of New Zealand , Australia , Hawaii , Hong Kong and now China . While he is here John hopes to travel around the country and learn as much about the Chinese culture as he can.
Kate Finlayson ( New Zealand )
Kate Finlayson is from Melbourne , Australia and has worked in reception/administration for the past six years in various fields including hospitality and corporate business. She completed an Advanced TESOL Certificate in late 2006. She enjoys music, creative writing, bushwalking and animals. She also enjoys traveling having been to New Zealand , Hawaii and now China . Kate's husband John also works at GLV and they are enjoying the amazing sights and sounds of China . Kate hopes to bring her knowledge of Western culture and language to her students and to learn as much as she can about Chinese culture, historical sites and pandas.
